Ph.D. in Buddhist Studies and Civilization


The School of Buddhist Studies and Civilization facilitates the programs leading to doctoral degree in Buddhist Languages and Literature and Buddhist Civilization and Culture. Following are the eligibility criteria and requirements to obtain Ph.D. degree from the School of Buddhist Studies and Civilization:

3 year (6 Semesters)

  Minimum Qualification for Admission :

Postgraduate Degree with minimum 55% for Gen/OBCs and 50% for SCs/STs is required to be eligible to apply for the admission. However, the admissions are based on the merit and top 30 candidates are selected through personal written test and personal interviews. Reservations in the admissions are applicable and fulfilled as per the Governmental policy.

  Total Required Credits :

10 credits are required from the coursework.

General Requirements:

Entry into the Ph.D. program is contingent upon successful completion of the M.A. degree in Buddhist Languages, Literature, Civilization and Culture at the Gautam Buddha University and a satisfactory evaluation by the Language Program faculty. Students with sufficient background, i.e. the successful completion of a relevant M.A. degree obtained from any another institution, may be considered for admission into the Ph.D. program. However, such students must be proficient in or posses the working knowledge of Sanskrit/Pali/ Tibetan or Chinese. Students are expected to fulfill the residence requirements of the University. Students who have completed an M.A. in Buddhist Languages, Literature, Civilization and Culture at the Gautam Buddha University with a specialization in the Buddhist Studies disciplinary concentration, as described above, also have to fulfill the residence requirements for the Ph.D. as set out by the Gautam Buddha University. If not, these must be satisfied as the student moves toward the Ph.D. Course work continuance is considered to be appropriate.
